Pilot/Observer Training Courses
Ab Initio → Pilot → Professional → Surveillance Specialist → Instructor → Examiner
PPL(G) - Private Pilots Licence

The PPL(G) course prepares candidates to be safe and proficient gyroplane pilots. This is a basic course, and on completion allows the pilot to safely pilot a gyroplane at a safe height, and navigate to a variety of airfields.
Theoretical Knowledge

Basic and advanced theoretical knowledge training is carried out appropriate to the level of course being taught. We follow the International Association of Professional Gyroplane Training (IAPGT) syllabi, as adopted by the UK CAA & EASA.
Aircraft Differences

Some organisations choose to use several models of gyroplane. Once pilots are trained on one, it is a fairly straightforward process to give differences training to be able to fly all models in the fleet.
Mountain Flying

The Mountain Flying Course gives existing pilots an appreciation of the techniques and safety considerations when flying through mountainous terrain. The particular focus is on wind and weather.
Beach Landing

The Beach Landing Course offers the unique opportunity for experienced pilots to land and take off on selected beach runways.

Advanced Pilot Development

Emergency landing is challenging in all circumstances: with difficult terrain and low flying, difficulties are increased and safe outcomes reduced. This course extends the pilot’s skills well beyond the basic skill level of a PPL(G), using a series of controlled exercises to explore the aircraft’s capabilities.
Camera Day Operations

Flying with a camera observation platform, requires training beyond basic flight skills. Training focuses on skilled positioning and holding of the aircraft, as well as effective search patterns depending on terrain features and search objective.
Camera Operator & Observer Training

Observers require in-flight training to understand the abilities of the aircraft, what is safe to ask of the pilot, and the onboard camera systems.
Night Rating

This course is aimed at mitigating unexpected weather and delays, giving pilots the competence to land safely in a lit airfield after dark.
Night Operations

Night operations demands lower flying than basic night flying; increased risk requires increased training.
Night Operations Observers Course

Infrared camera operation is a skilled position requiring specific training. Observers bear responsibility as a lookout and as pilot’s assistant to maintain the highest levels of safety.
Commercial Pilots Licence - CPL(G)

After extensive theoretical knowledge examinations, and a practical flight course, pilots may choose to work for commercial gain flying gyroplanes.
Flight Instructor Course - FI(G)(R)

The flight instructor course is challenging. It includes around 200 hours or 8 Weeks of tuition per person. Included is a minimum of 125 hours of theoretical knowledge training, and a minimum of 30 hours of flight training. After examination the course qualifies a pilot to instruct the PPL(G) course.
Advanced Instructor Courses

Flight instructors require additional and specific training to be able to instruct pilots on all other courses listed. Advanced Instructor Courses can be offered to those with appropriate experience.
Flight Instructor Course Instructor - FIC(G)

This course is designed for those that wish to train the flight instructors of the future. With this qualification, instructor may carry out instructor training courses.
Examiner Courses

Suitably qualified and experienced pilots may apply to become Flight Examiners. Courses are held for:
-
Flight Examiner - FE(G) to test new pilots for the PPL(G).
-
Flight Instructor Examiner - FIE(G) to test Flight Instructors.
-
Senior Examiner - SE(G) to train and test Examiners.
